Pipeline OIDC & Workload Identity

OpenID Connect can let an eligible delivery workflow obtain short-lived cloud access based on a trusted identity claim, reducing reliance on copied long-lived cloud secrets.

Is this right for you?

When this is the right work.

Deployment workflows use shared cloud keys, or trust is not limited to the repository, environment and action that should deploy.

The first conversation establishes the environment, the constraint and who will accept the result. We agree a bounded starting point before expanding the engagement.

Scope

What DotConn delivers.

  1. 01

    Review identity and provider fit

Confirm the CI platform, cloud provider and supported identity exchange.

  2. 02

    Define the trust policy

Limit the accepted issuer, subject, audience and deployment context as appropriate to the provider.

  3. 03

    Validate permitted behavior

Test the approved workflow and relevant denied paths; document operational recovery.

Deliverables

What you receive.

Acceptance criteria identify the checks, records and handover needed for the agreed scope.

  • CI-to-cloud trust design
  • OIDC workflow and provider configuration
  • Allowed/denied-path checks and handover

In practice

A practical example.

The situation

A team wants to remove stored cloud credentials from its release workflow.

Our approach

We assess the supported exchange, configure a bounded trust relationship and test the intended deployment.

The useful result

The resulting record explains who can request access and under which conditions.

Responsibility

Agree the responsibility.

DotConn

Assesses and delivers the technical work in the agreed scope, with reviewable changes and handover. Continuing operation requires a separately defined managed-service scope.

Your team

Provides authorized access, business priorities and accountable decision-makers; approves policy choices and accepts the agreed result.

Set this boundary early

OIDC does not make an overbroad role safe. Trust policy, repository controls and cloud permissions still need review.

FAQ

Questions worth resolving.

Does OIDC remove every secret from a pipeline?

No. It can replace particular cloud credentials where supported. Other application and service secrets may still need governed storage and rotation.

Pricing, timing and how to prepare are covered in working with DotConn.
