Monitoring & Observability

Observability uses signals such as metrics, logs and traces to help explain system behavior. Monitoring turns selected conditions into checks and actionable alerts.

Is this right for you?

When this is the right work.

Incidents require guesswork across disconnected dashboards, or alerts are frequent without identifying customer impact and ownership.

The first conversation establishes the environment, the constraint and who will accept the result. We agree a bounded starting point before expanding the engagement.

Scope

What DotConn delivers.

  1. 01

    Start with service questions

Identify important journeys and the operational questions the team needs to answer.

  2. 02

    Connect useful telemetry

Scope instrumentation, collection and correlation using the current stack or appropriate tools.

  3. 03

    Design actionable responses

Link alerts and dashboards to service objectives, owners and runbooks.

Deliverables

What you receive.

Acceptance criteria identify the checks, records and handover needed for the agreed scope.

  • Telemetry and signal-ownership design
  • Instrumentation and dashboard configuration
  • Alert and incident-response guidance

In practice

A practical example.

The situation

A request crosses several services and failures are difficult to localize.

Our approach

We scope tracing and correlated service context, then connect relevant signals to an operational response.

The useful result

The team receives a repeatable way to investigate the agreed failure paths.

Responsibility

Agree the responsibility.

DotConn

Assesses and delivers the technical work in the agreed scope, with reviewable changes and handover. Continuing operation requires a separately defined managed-service scope.

Your team

Provides authorized access, business priorities and accountable decision-makers; approves policy choices and accepts the agreed result.

Set this boundary early

Telemetry volume, sensitive-data handling, retention and vendor costs need explicit choices. More dashboards alone do not establish reliability.

FAQ

Questions worth resolving.

Does OpenTelemetry replace Grafana or Datadog?

No. It provides instrumentation and telemetry capabilities; collection, storage, analysis and visualization still require an architecture and selected backends.

Pricing, timing and how to prepare are covered in working with DotConn.
